Stephen Hoefler

Technical Services – Registered Mine Surveyor

Stephen has 17 years of mining experience in both open cut and underground coal mines. He is registered with the Surveyors Board of Queensland as a Surveyor with a Mining Endorsement for all mines. Stephen has worked in various survey and senior roles with leading mining companies including Mount Isa Mines (MIM), Xstrata Coal and BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).

Stephen is committed to helping operations maximise their ore recovery. He has in depth knowledge of industry-leading reconciliation reporting and mining methods used to minimise coal damage while mining.

Stephen has recently completed a 4 year consulting agreement with BHP Billiton Mitsui Coal (BMC), where he was on site every month supporting the technical services team, building procedures and helping with the transition from a contract mine to an owner operator mine. He has also conducted end of month audits and reports for owner operator and contract mines.

James Mackenzie

Technical Services Consultant - Engineering and Surveying

James has almost 10 years of experience across all mining environments. He started as a surveyor in underground coal in the Bowen Basin before moving into the open cut. Working at large and small mining companies as owner/operator, contractor and principal contractor allows James to better understand your needs and provide effective solutions.

In his role at Maptek, James has covered dragline, drill and blast, short, mid and long term planning as well as surveying.

The experience James has gained from such a varied background allows him to bring a fresh set of eyes to any project. This is what drives James to improve and streamline current solutions as well as help develop leading edge technologies and promote innovations within the mining industry.

Claire Avenell

Technical Services Geologist

Claire has a diverse background in exploration, geological database management, community consultation, recruitment and customer support. She has been conducting Vulcan training courses for 2 years, specialising in stratigraphic and block modelling, and geotechnical analysis.

Claire is passionate about training and enjoys complex problem solving and the opportunity to tailor solutions for Vulcan users. She is currently working on implementing the requirements to enable Vulcan to become compliant with the new CoalLog Standard.
