Improved Drill and Blast

Vulcan Short Term Planner Module

The Vulcan Short Term Planner module is a collection of scheduling tools designed for open pit mines. It allows engineers to base target and extraction points on information directly from a Vulcan block model, eliminating the need to prepare and pre-process scheduling regions.

Performance Improvements

  • acQuire database optimisation - local cache is updated automatically when acQuire database content is changed. Cache persistence across Vulcan sessions results in a dramatic performance increase
  • Chronos multi-threading - multi-threading and tuning parameters reduce the time required to run mine schedule optimisations by up to 99%
  • Enhanced Run Length Compositing - Optimised run length compositing that avoids generation of "residuals" allowing maximum utilisation of down the hole information.
  • Underground Ramp Unfolding - delivers increased ability to visualise and plot underground ramps
  • Reserving utility - improvements result in 5-10 times faster reporting times

Interface and Other Improvements

  • A redesigned Benching and Batter interface - provides coal users with a more accurate representation of what happens in the pit, which in turn helps determine economic limits and mine life by determining strip ratios
  • Fuel consumption calculations - now available in the Haulage Profile module
  • Grade control - grade control engineers or geologists will now be able to apply an automated process to generate accurate, reliable results for underground operations
