Slope Stability Monitoring

How continuous monitoring helps an open pit gold mine improve safety

The walls are steep at the Kanmantoo open pit gold mine in Southern Australia. Since 2014, mine owner and operator Hillgrove Resources has been using Maptek Sentry to monitor slope stability and ground movements.

For Bruce Hutchison, Senior Geotechnical Engineer 'the whole background of a steep walled design is that you need to have systems in place that identify where all the risks are and to be able to manage them. Maptek systems have helped us greatly in doing that.'

'The Sentry and Studio systems we operate here have been instrumental in us ensuring we operate a safe, risk-free environment to work in.'

Watch the video to find out how Maptek Sentry has helped Bruce to:

  • Monitor much larger areas than he could before
  • Identify rockfalls in real time
  • Define 'no-go' areas of the mine, that are too risky

Maptek have developed Sentry into a world-class slope monitoring system
