Meet the experts

Dr. William X. Chávez, Jr.

A professor of geological engineering at the New Mexico School of Mines since 1985. Dr. Chávez has instructed field and in-class workshops for the Society of Economic Geologists involving a variety of ore deposit types, with emphasis on the practical application of geochemistry to mineral exploration.

Maureen Moore

A Senior Geologist and manager of the training program for the Technical Services Team. She has been a professional geologist and educator for over eleven years. Prior to joining Maptek, she worked as a field and exploration geologist for Newmont Mining Corporation, O’Brien & Gere, URS-Diamond/DuPont, Pennsylvania Topographic & Geological Survey (DCNR), and West Chester University.

Who should attend this course?

Entry-level geologists and Junior geologists. Graduate-level students looking to broaden their understanding of how detailed mapping fits into the mining industry.

What’s included?

Transportation to the mapping location, field lunches, base maps, colored pencils, clipboards, software licensing for training, and Certificate of Completion.

What’s not included?

Nightly lodging. Participants are also responsible for their travel to and from the Maptek Golden office.

What should I bring?

Long pants, breathable long sleeve shirt, hat, Brunton compass*, and steel toe boots. Be sure to check the weather and adjust your attire accordingly!
