Reconcile rock bolt distribution and effectiveness for improving safety underground.
Operational and technical teams can easily analyse and report on rock bolts for evaluating stability of structures and surrounding rock mass to maintain safe working conditions underground.
Working directly off laser scan data is key to automating the spatial distribution and analysis of rock bolt effectiveness.
The Maptek tool can automatically identify and count the bolts captured on the laser scan, greatly reducing the need for manual or digitised recording. Rock bolt analysis is run on point clouds captured by Maptek laser scanners, such as the Maptek SR3 system.
The SR3 laser scanner can be deployed to capture rock bolt data weekly or monthly, depending on the extent of underground headings and installation areas.
Rock bolts are installed in mines and tunnels to support exposed structures and prevent rock collapse. Manual inspection involves personnel viewing the placement, distribution and condition of rock bolts to assess their effectiveness.
Rock bolt assessment is now easier, faster and safer, with reporting and visualisation features that provide decision support for geotechnical engineers and mine management. Underground operations can determine whether the location of planned or installed bolts is correct and take remedial action as required.
Rock bolt analysis is available by subscription for PointStudio and PointModeller licences.
