Method for success
Discover how Maptek is investing in future mining professionals through university partnerships, student awards and industry development opportunities.
Maptek’s sponsorship of an annual award presented by the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) at Curtin University in Perth helps shine a light on outstanding Mining Methods and Processes students.
The standout student who receives the highest average score is awarded the Maptek Prize for Most Outstanding Performance.
This year the award went to Shaun Seah, who achieved an average of 77% in a cohort of 160 students, completed while he was working full time at Iluka Resources.
Shaun said he didn’t expect to win the award, making it a pleasant surprise to be invited to the WA School of Mines Prize Giving Ceremony.
‘I have previously worked with data from Maptek laser scanners, so I was familiar with the company’s products and grateful for their sponsorship,’ he said.
‘The award means a lot to me, especially as I was working full time in the mines whilst studying for this unit. It has encouraged me to do the best I can.’
Shaun is now focused on completing the course and looking at his next career goal – to progress a career in mining engineering.
‘I hope to combine my prior experience as a geologist to achieve innovative solutions.’
We wish Shaun all the best for the next chapter of his career.
